Five Norwegian transport aircraft have been sold to the American company Coulson Aviation. The aircraft will be used for fire extinguishing.
The military transport aircraft Balder, Brage, Frøy, Odin and Ty have been sold to the US company for $ 4.5 million, or just over NOK 41 million.
“This is the first major disposal project that has been completed after the establishment of Forsvarsmateriell as a separate agency. It is uplifting when we succeed in re-use as in this case,” says Director Mette Sørfonden of Forsvarsmateriell in a press release.
The planes must be rebuilt to become aerial firefighters.
“These C-130H aircraft have been maintained to the highest standards, and with our modifications together with a new glass cockpit, the aircraft will continue to serve the public in the years ahead,” Britt Coulson, director of Coulson Aviation, said in the press release.
Defense Minister Frank Bakke-Jensen (Høyre/Conservative Party) is also pleased with the sale.
“These aircraft have been very important for the Norwegian Armed Forces, and I am glad that they can now also benefit civil society. That we can at the same time return funds from the sale to the defense budget is also gratifying,” writes Bakke-Jensen.
