Driver, 49, named in fatal western South Dakota crash

KEYSTONE, S.D. — Authorities have identified a 49-year-old Keystone man who was killed Saturday morning, Oct. 26, west of Keystone in western South Dakota.

Troy Thorson was driving a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup westbound on Old Hill City Road, about four miles north of Mount Rushmore, when he lost control of his vehicle near Lafferty Gulch Road. The pickup went off the roadway, struck a concrete culvert and rolled, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety said.

Thorson was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, the Department of Public Safety said.
