ALABAMA BASKETBALL FALLS TO NO. 6 NORTH CAROLINA IN THE BAHAMAS

The Alabama men’s basketball team lost to No. 6 North Carolina, 76-67, Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the 2019 Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis.

The Crimson Tide played hard throughout the first half and trailed by six at halftime. However, in the second half, the Tar Heels went on a 14-2 run lasting just over six minutes, taking a 51-36 lead with less than 14 minutes remaining.

On several occasions, Alabama brought the game to single digits only for North Carolina to stretch the lead. Holding a 60-31 advantage in rebounds, the Tar Heels didn’t allow the Crimson Tide to get back in the game.

Junior John Petty Jr. finished with a season-high 23 points going 7-of-10 shooting from three-point land. Sophomore Kira Lewis Jr. added 20 points, five rebounds and four assists in the loss. It was his third 20-point game of the season.

North Carolina had 23 offensive boards compared to Alabama’s eight, which resulted in a 23-7 edge for the Tar Heels in second-chance points. The Crimson Tide held the turnover advantage forcing 20 turnovers for the Tar Heels.

Alabama outscored North Carolina 17-12 in points off turnovers.

Alabama will play in the consolation bracket tomorrow taking on Iowa State, which fell to Michigan in the first game of the day. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
