Letter: Can’t afford to live in Utah

I read the full-page Sutherland Institute ad in The Salt Lake Tribune. Interesting.

As a retiree with no dependents, living on Social Security and a small annuity such that I have not paid federal or state income taxes on for the past 12 years, I find the promise of a rebate/tax credit disingenuous. I will feel the full impact of the increase in grocery taxes. I don’t own a vehicle so the increased gas tax will not affect me directly.

If it were not for subsidized housing, I could not afford to live in the state of Utah (and be close to my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren).
